Managing Director		 Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we Americans use the opportunity to reflect on harder times and think about what is good. In general, that should be pretty easy in America right now. Any exposure to the media in relation to the overall well-being of the nation has a dominant theme: how poorly our country’s executive administration is doing. It seems that second-guessing the President is as common as a stock tip.

For those who need help with a list of things to be thankful for I’ve started one:

  • We haven’t had a terrorist attack in the US in more     than 5 years now.
• The economy is pretty solid as evidenced by a stable    stock .market and strong earnings reports.    Opportunities for .skilled people with the right dreams    and the right attitude abound.
• Good people are out there once again. Whether    looking for employees, services, or just friends the    people are there and easier than ever to find right    now.
• Flat panel displays have become affordable bringing    high- res graphics to every desktop and HDTV to    every living room.
• Communication technology has advanced to the point    of having wireless high-speed internet on pocketable    devices.
• The overheated real-estate market has cooled and not    crashed.
• The oceans have cooled three years in a row, not    ending global warming but at least bucking the trend.
• It was a very mild hurricane season. Something was    needed to put the doomsayers and insurance    companies back in their places.
• Paris Hilton is no longer in the headlines.

I hope everyone has plenty of other things to be thankful for. Wherever you are in the world, take a little time out in November to think about what’s going right for you. At the risk of sounding important, I have one more thing to say: We should have had a better plan in Iraq. Wow that felt good. Now I know what all the fuss is about.

Enhanced APAC ARSIC Software Allows Solving More Complex Applications
  In order to fulfill requirements in the Semiconductor business, we have improved various functions of our APAC gantry robot system. Other applications can benefit from these enhancements as well:
■ Placement force can be controlled through ARSIC software
■ Temperature of any heating stations can be controlled through ARSIC software
■ New series of Cognex cameras offers higher resolution capabilities

Disk Drive Manufacturing: The Challenges of High Velocity Change
  HDD manufacturing methodologies have steadily been moving to automation for higher throughput, higher accuracy, and cleaner operating environments. Production for the HDD industry is complex and characterized by rapid changes in the areas of manufacturing equipment and systems, measurements and characterization, yield and production management, and automation.

AccuPlace exhibited at Diskcon show in Santa Clara, CA
AccuPlace presented its 1515 clean room die-cut applicator at the Diskcon show in Santa Clara, CA on September 13-14. As the hard drive manufacturing is very particle sensitive, this new ESD clean room capable version is nickel plated and equipped with air recovery cups on pneumatic components to port exhaust air to a common exhaust port.
